Genealogy of the Heraclian Dynasty, Byzantium

This is my last post for this year 2021. The Heraclian Dynasty ruled the Byzantine Empire from 610-711 with one gap between 695 and 705 when its last emperor Justinian II was overthrown for the first time. The dynasty was founded by Heraclius the Younger in 610, the son of the Exarch of Africa Heraclius the Elder after overthrowing the usurper emperor Phocas. This dynasty was the firs tin a long time to have 5 consecutive generations of emperors in one straight line which included its founder Heraclius (r. 610-641), his sons Constantine III and Heraklonas (r. 641), grandson Constans II (r. 641-668), great-grandson Constantine IV (r. 668-685), and great-great-grandson Justinian II (r. 685-695) who came back to power in 705 ruling until he was deposed and executed in 711 which marked the complete end of the dynasty. This dynasty was mostly made up of tough warrior emperors as this was a challenging time for the Byzantine empire when their borders were invaded first by the Sassanid Persians, the Arabs, and then the Bulgars which required strong and ruthless men to run the troubled empire and true enough most of these rulers kept the empire together except for its last ruler Justinian II who pretty much messed up.

Purple letters in this chart indicate those who ruled as senior emperors from 610-711, black letter indicate other family members including empresses, red lines for marriages, and black lines for the offspring line. The character images here were drawn by myself at different months this year. Take not that the last member of this dynasty being Justinian II's son Tiberius is at the same level as his father mainly because there was no more space to bring him down.
